It's a bug in the game, it does the same sort of thing on a PS1.

Confirmed.

Torsos and heads are overrated anyway. Razz

Looks like changes in 0.9.37 broke it.

Probably a game's bug, but anyway:

Bounty Sword - Double Edge (Japan) [SLPS-01479] - when the voice says "Bounty Sword: The Second" on the main menu, the sound is cut on "The Se....". It doesn't happen on SLPM-86625 Major Wave rerelease. Also tested on ePSXe with its own sound core plugin, the sound is all broken there, so, nothing to compare Smile

And another sound bug, which is unique to Mednafen (doesn't appear on Xebra, for example): when you run certain games, which start with STR movies, you can still hear the BIOS intro along with the STR movies sound. Usually BIOS sound stops when the main menu appears. For example, check Shin Nihon Pro Wrestling - Toukon Retsuden 3 (Japan) (SLPS-01314 or SLPS-01366, happens on both).

Tomb Raider (USA) (v1.6) -- locks up on the first level after the first save point. If you pull the lever, let the door close and wander around for 2-3 minutes, the game always freezes. The game, not mednafen, so you can change controls, take the snapshots, etc. The screenshot attached was taken after the game freezed.

Tomba! (USA) [SCUS-94236] -- when you run it in the fullscreen mode in the desktop resolution (1920x1080 in my case), after the hi-res Whoopie Camp logo, there's a white 'leftover' stripe on the bottom of the screen, that doesn't disappear, unless you switch into the window mode and back. Doesn't appear in the windowed mode.

Could you paste the output of stdout.txt(or just Mednafen's text output if not on Windows) particularly the part that's after "Initializing video...", like this:

It's writing to SPU RAM in a weird way, relying on SPU status bits Mednafen doesn't currently emulate. It's easy enough to fix, but I'll have to give it some thought to ensure it won't cause regressions with any other games.

Got two bug reports.

Clock Tower - The First Fear [SCPS-10037]
Weird white flickering covers the entire screen when you get to the shower room for the first time(with the steam every were). Encountered this while playing the recent fan translation,
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/2337/
however, I don't think this is what caused the bug. I have my save attached, it will take you directly to the room in question.

Final Fantasy VII [SCUS-94163-4] - (Because) Re-Translation
Disc 1 and 2 do not start with this new Re-Translation patch.
http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,19709.0.html
Initially I thought it was an issue with the patch, however, there have been reports of it working on real hardware.

Most likely not and the only known image of this game floating in the net (and even in Non-Redump torrent compilation) is a self-made iso using the UltraISO tool. Image creation date is 2008 and there's no bootsector, so it cannot boot in Mednafen, Xebra or the real PSX (I don't know how was he able to run it on Xebra). ePSXe runs it fine, since it doesn't use the boot sector.

In Resident Evil Director's Cut (USA) [SLUS-00551] (not the DualShock edition) there's a controller config menu that's supposed to come up when you disconnect the controller, however in Mednafen it keeps popping up by itself when moving between certain screens.

The first time it happens is when you try to go to the other end of the very first dining room (where Barry is if you play as Jill.)

Mednafen does this on 0.9.31-WIP and above, 0.9.29-WIP and below seem to work fine (tested on Windows version).

I am using version 0.9.38.6. I have noticed that certain camera angles will trigger the menu each and every time, and that the bug is limited to those camera angles. The in-game controller config screen will pop up immediately when switching to those angles.

Please provide a save state in an area adjacent to where a problematic camera angle change occurs.

I've attached three states- one is right before triggering a camera change that consistently brings up the controller settings menu. The .mc2 is a save state from when the controller config is up after triggering it- and .mc3 is an area where moving in any direction does not trigger the menu.

Also note that I've tested SLUS-00747- the Director's Cut, Dual Shock edition, which does not have the same issue. I ran through Director's Cut Dual Shock with the controller type set to "dualshock," and it worked 100% correctly. However, the pad type seems to have no effect on the bug as revisiting SLUS-00551 with "dualshock" pad selected made no difference.

Agreed, really amazing work! This Resident Evil issue is the only problem I've ever encountered with Mednafen.

And I just love the purity of it. No filters, no higher resolutions, no plugins, just the pure, unadulterated, glorious soup of pixels.

It's a shame that the Dual Shock version of RE changed the soundtrack- but here's a mod (not linking to an ISO, it's just a patch), that restores the original soundtrack:

(Can't link, so head over to "The horror is alive" forums, and it's under the modding subforum).

It's due to bugs in the timer emulation in Mednafen.

Interestingly the game seems to be using a timer in a nonsensical way; I wonder if it's an unintentional bug in the game, or the result of a quick patch late in development to work around some problem.
