Team Buddies (USA) - redump.org dump

After second PlayStation BIOS intro, music loops. You are going to hear it as long as to the first loading screen before main menu.

It looks like that it is the same bug that user weetabix described above about game Rageball or CART World Series. It is about same music from second BIOS intro music that doesnt stop.

I think it can probably be connected with this: http://forum.fobby.net/index.php?t=tree&th=1031&start=0&

Sorry I havent specified that post here but I didnt see this topic about bugs in PSX core - well no none seems interested about it anyway as there are no replies...

Why I think it can be connected? Because the music that is "cut" too fast is also the same last seconds - second BIOS screen - music that loops in Team Buddies or Rageball. It either is cut too fast or it loops.

Wipeout 3 USA

It's a music issue. Sometimes the music sounds like if you were in a tunnel AKA the bass is missing. If you open the sound menu it works fine again.
The weird thing is that is happening only on Windows. The same computer with OSX runs the game fine with older mednafen versions.

Maybe a sound driver issue?

The 32-bit or 64-bit build?

Which track in Wipeout 3?

How long do you have to wait for it to occur(and will it occur if you just let the game sit without playing it)?

CyberSled (Japan) [SLPS-00023] doesn't work in 0.9.35 (both 32-bit and 64-bit builds). You can hear the sounds of the intro video, but the screen stays black (and, as far as I can tell, controls doesn't work as well).

Sorry, gmail send the reply notification to spam folder.

I tried both 32 and 64 bit. Ocurs every time a new CD track is loaded and when you enter to the sound settings (main menu or in race) it starts to sound properly. It's noticeable because the lack of bass on the music.

If you just load the game and go to the main menu you can check the difference by entering to the sound settings menu.

I'm using Wipeout 3 USA.

Also noticed that this IS NOT HAPPENNING with retroarch using mednafen core. With retroarch I can get true 16.9 fullscreen (mednafen puts both black bars at the sides when using stretch) and the sound issue only happens the first time. On mednafen the sound gets "bassless" everytime you start a race or go back to the main menu (AKA loads a different CD track)

WipeOut 3 is doing nonsensical things with an SPU volume control register, triggering an esoteric SPU emulation bug, which causes the left output sound channel to be inverted compared to the right, triggering an effect similar to hooking a speaker up with reversed polarity or using the cheap voice-cancelling effect of karaoke machines.

It'll be fixed in 0.9.36.

Hello,

I am running the latest version of mednafen on lubuntu, using ALSA sound driver; 0.9.36 introduced a static high pitched noise in Castlevania SotN that wasn't there in 0.9.34.I can't remember whether I have the PAL or NTSC version.

It creeps in after you start to play as Alucard and music have started, I have attached my save files just in case you would like to hear it outright.

Thanks for your hard work.

I looked into Thousand Arms, it's using a different method to handle the voice playback, involving SPU IRQs.

I'm not quite sure how to fix the issue properly right now, but if you want a somewhat improper fix, comment out the "CheckIRQAddr(voice->CurAddr);" around line 614 of src/psx/spu.cpp

(that change will completely break at least one other game, though)

Thanks for fixing this in the latest build. Amazing work.

Why it wasn't added to Mednafen(0.9.36.2) bugs list?

Bedlam (Europe) [SLES-00334] -- all the intro screens and menus are garbled/corrupted, impossible to navigate and start the game (maybe the game itself is playable, can't say).

Pooh's Party Game: In Search of the Treasure (USA) [SLUS-01437] -- Black screen after selecting the character.

Rise 2: Resurrection (Japan) [SLPS-00259] -- all the intro screens are garbled/corrupted (similar to Bedlam), freezes on the fighter selection menu.

This Is Football 2 (Europe) [SCES-03070] -- Black screen after the intro.

I haven't gotten around to fully testing and adding CyberSled yet.

Bedlam issue is a bug with the CD emulation that should be easy to fix.

Pooh issue looks like an aggravating seek/read startup timing issue.

Rise 2 issue has the same cause as the Bedlam issue.

This is Football 2 issue is another CD seek/read startup timing issue.

Harukanaru Toki no Naka de - Banjou Yuugi (Japan) [SLPM-87241] -- When the game starts and a character appears, the game stops. It doesn't lock up, since the character blinks with his eyes and music continues to play, but no text shows up in the textbox and buttons don't work. Works properly in ePSXe 1.9

Dukes of Hazzard, The - Racing for Home (USA) [SLUS-00859] -- The car sometimes falls down through the road into the grey nowhere. The bug is hard to reproduce, but happened a few times on the first level, when the car was close to the left border. Hard to say, whether it's a game or emulator bug, should be examined.

PAL games often show "VIDEO STANDARD MISMATCH" message. Even the PAL BIOS itself shows this message for a few milliseconds before the intro. As for the games - check, for example, Speed Machines (Europe) [SLES-03930]. Instead of Midas logo (320x240@50Hz, according to AmiDog's GPU plugin) there is that message.
Real NTSC consoles work fine with PAL resolutions (but the bottom of picture is cut off, since NTSC consoles can draw 240 line max and PAL resolutions often contain 256 lines) and PAL consoles work fine with NTSC resolutions (with a black bar). So, hardcoding PAL/NTSC resolutions is incorrect, the only real limitations are the framerate and the total lines number.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. NTSC PS1s cannot output a proper PAL signal, and PAL PS1s cannot output a proper NTSC signal(at least not without hardware modifications).

Not that an NTSC TV of the time can even be reasonably expected to correctly display a PAL signal, broken or not, and vice-versa to a certain degree.

In any case, I'll look into that game you mentioned to see if it's doing anything weird.

No, I've thought you've limited NTSC resolutions to NTSC mode and PAL resolutions to PAL mode (like, 320x240 only for NTSC and 320x256 only for PAL), but looks like other PAL games run in 320x240 just fine and don't show that message Smile

A few more:

Transformers - Beast Wars Transmetals (USA) [SLUS-01160] -- Freezes on loading the level
F1 2000 (USA) [SLUS-01120] -- Heat effect is totally incorrect (at the very beginning of each race, when your car is standing still, there's a black smoke and "heat effect" around the engine, but Mednafen draws "garbage squares" instead)
Infestation (Europe) [SLES-01870] -- Menu is very slow, the first 10-15 seconds of gameplay are also slow, then it suddenly runs with proper speed. Since it's the only game with the speed issues I've seen so far, it is probably a bug.

Confirmed. It's issuing a CD controller command that isn't handled correctly in Mednafen, mostly because I hadn't seen any games using it before, and I forgot about looking into it.
