Q for Speedvicio: Adding Internal resolution controls to MedGui Reborn? [message #4354] Fri, 29 April 2016 18:27 Go to next message

I recently saw this post about the new features added to Retroarch's Mednafen PSX core.

It includes a skippable BIOS screen among other things but I'm most concerned about the ability to set a higher/custom internal resolution.

The thing about Retroarch is that its just awful and awkward to use, while MedGui Reborn is simple and easy,

the current 0.65 is perfect but If this feature could be added in a future build that would be amazing... the best PSX emu experience available for sure.

Even a drop down box with the choice of 240p or upped to 480p would be a good start.

Just a thought, would like to hear what you think.

Ciao
You can already set the fullscreen resolution in mednafen-09x.cfg on <system>.xres and <system>.yres section, putting your desired resolution:

Example:
gba.xres 1680
gba.yres 1050

On the GUI you can set this value on advanced setting in
Video > Full Screen Resolutions (combobox), input your desired ressolution (example 1680x1050).

0x0 value set the resolution same of your desktop.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

The internal resolution is different to fullscreen resolution,
the native internal resolution of the PS1 was 240p, this is the resolution that the console renders games at.

In Pete's OpenGL2 plugin for ePSXe you have the option to increase the internal resolution to 480p and even 1024x768,

In PCSX2, the PS2 emulator, you can manually set the internal resolution and play PS2 games in 1080p, 1440p and even 4K (of course that is with pillar boxes to maintain the 4:3 aspect ratio)

Now unlike those 2 Mednafen is software emulator so Im not really sure how they managed to add the option for non-native internal resolutions but apparently they have according to the link I posted above.

you can google
internal resolution for a better explanation.

Apologies, after reading through the reddit post I found out the internal resolution setting is unique to the Retroarch core and that standalone Mednafen has no plans to support it...

oh well, maybe in the future we will get it
