Hex edit PS1 CD region auto detection [message #6716] | Fri, 27 May 2022 21:55

Hello. I'm trying to figure out how to force hex edited bin of PS1 game to be auto detected as US region instead of EU. I tried to hex replace these data, but it still launches as EU region. SCEE > SCEA SCES_039.22;1.....UXA > SCUS_039.22;1.....UXA SCES_039.22;1.TCB > SCUS_039.22;1.TCB SCES-03922KBV > SCUS-03922KBV Licensed by Sony Computer Entertainment Euro pe .. > Licensed by Sony Computer Entertainment Amer ica .. I know that i can turn off auto detection, but i wish to know what i am missing here. Can someone point me my mistake?

I'm not sure about how mednafen detects game region, but I can tell you that mednafen verifies the error correction data on the disc. You'll need something like ECCRegen to update the error correction to match your hex edits, otherwise mednafen will "correct the disc errors". You can also change psx.region_autodetect to 0 to force mednafen to always run as the region console set in psx.region_default, but mednafen doesn't display PAL video from an NTSC console and vice versa, just showing "video mismatch" on screen, so you might run into issues with that depending on the gamee. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ she/her Use my mednafen servers? >> I'm not sure about how mednafen detects game region I checked source code of auto detection, and pretty sure it suppose to be connected to things which i edited. But it still somehow doesn't work like i want. >> mednafen doesn't display PAL video from an NTSC console and vice versa, just showing "video mismatch" on screen I already did conversion from PAL to NTSC, and it runs fine enough, if i turn off auto detection. So my main issue is region auto detection.

I knew it! Error correction, gets 'em every time. It would be nice if mednafen had an option to turn it off, for the sake of testing edits more quickly and only having to regen once when you "finalize" it, but I guess there are always just other emulators >.>
