Which is more accurate? nn2x or no scaler? [message #6954] | Fri, 03 November 2023 23:44 | |||

Hi all. I'm running FF7 with the goat shader and stretch set to aspect_int. While playing around with the settings I noticed that enabling nn2x resulted in a noticeably cleaner picture: I thought this looked nice, but then I found this thread (https://forum.fobby.net/index.php?t=msg&goto=5348&) talking about how distorted pixels are a by-product of how the emulator adheres to the PS1's pixel clock. So what exactly is nn2x doing here to create this cleaner image, and how does it compare to what an actual PS1 would be outputting? The vertical height of my display is only 768 pixels, if that's relevant. I know from the documentation that the goat shader is written for bigger displays, but I'm not sure whether or not that's related to what I'm seeing here. Finally, is there a reason to prefer aspect_mult2 to aspect_int?
